Kill Bill (if guy behind me is named Bill)

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2003 (5 years, 1 month ago)

People in theaters can be real annoying. In fact, the entire theater experience is something I’m beginning to hate. I went to go watch Kill Bill with my girlfriend and some guy who was high (or at least I hope he was) was laughing like a pothead at the stupidest things. If you don’t know what “laughing like a pothead” sounds like… Too bad!

Also, these people behind us were carrying on their own conversation during the movie and one guy had this stupid chuckle that was driving me insane.

I’d rather watch a DVD release at home in peace and possibly eat popcorn that doesn’t cost twenty dollars than go to a dark theater full of people who were cursed with annoying laughs.

Although, I doubt I’ll ever see the day where big blockbuster movies are released onto DVD (even for renting-only purposes) the same time they’re released in theaters. Because that would mean something actually went how I wanted it to.

The safe bet

I can always count on two actors to choose to act in movies that I like: Kevin Spacey and Denzel Washington. I was skeptical about the last two movies I saw them in (Out of Time and The Life of David Gale), but they both turned out to be very enjoyable movies. Those are two actors who don’t dissapoint.

Two actors who used to be safe bets for me where Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis. But Samuel L. Jackson has been doing some weird stuff lately (XXX, Star Wars, Formula 51). And Bruce Willis doesn’t seem to be picking the kinds of scripts he used to choose to act in either.

But any movie with a combination of these four actors is a movie you can’t miss: Die Hard 3, The Negotiator, The Siege, etc.

“Safe bet actors” are good for when you’re in a rental store and you’re wondering what to watch. Otherwise you just look foolish for standing in Blockbuster for thirty minutes. And even more foolish when you eventually walk out with nothing in your hands and you have to try to play it off with the cashier which you HAVE to walk by to leave…

Criminal food chain

Everyone’s posting about how the RIAA has sued 216 people, including the mother of a twelve year old girl. And how the law should go after the drug dealers and other criminals that cause more damage— which is the same response you’d get from: jay-walkers, traffic violators, and recreational drug users.

Drug dealers will say to go after murderers and rapists. So in many people’s eyes the only crime that should be a punishable offense is being a serial rapist who kills his/her victims. But I’m sure they have some sort of criminal genre to talk about, also. Oh, I know: how about the creators of these crap-ass reality shows? Should be able to pinch them for some sort of pollution violation…

Bad commercials #2

Wednesday, August 6th, 2003 (5 years, 5 months ago)

I’d hate to meet some friends who talk like how people talk in commercials. Especially college commercials (or any super low budget advertisement where it looks like they hired their buddies).

Although I shouldn’t be giving low budget advertising campaigns a rough time. Because I don’t know what the hell Billy Sardell is still doing on those Round Table pizza spots.

Back story & Update: When the old version of this website was up, I wrote a post stating that I would never touch a Round Table pizza because of how annoying those television commercials are. As far as I can remember, I’ve stayed true to my promise.

Cheaps-Gates

The newest Powerball lottery winners in Pennsylvania say that they’ll still be shopping at Wal-Mart, pumping their own gas and looking for sales— even after receiving a $73.6 million dollar lump-sum.

I don’t understand why it should be any other way. That’s why big blockbuster movie budgets always seem odd to me. Some movies are made for $60 million, but I still find better films that had a budget of $5 million, or $20,000. Why not keep using the indepedent film techniques of finding deals on production costs?

Seriously, where is all this money disappearing to? I want to get in the movie business because I think there’s just some big scam where people are able to skim off 40% of the budget for their own personal use.

There’s got to be some truth in what Chris Rock said about The Blair Witch Project’s $60,000 budget: “Somewhere, somebody’s walking around with $59,000!”
