The best laid plans…

Thursday, January 20th, 2005 (3 years, 10 months ago)

I marinated some chicken drumsticks overnight so that I could have some spicy chicken while watching CSI: Las Vegas tonight (some might consider it odd that I can stomach eating dinner while watching CSI…), but it turns out that there’s a re-run of the show tonight. And the next episode won’t be on for two more weeks. This is the draw-back of being too big a fan of a show like CSI– it’s hard to enjoy re-runs.

I thought I’d try to salvage half of my plans and eat the chicken while watching one of my Frasier DVDs (what a satisfying life I lead). Turns out I took the chicken out of the oven too soon and it’s still pink near the bone.

Damn you CBS, for postponing the new episode of CSI (enough acronyms for you?). I guess I have no one to blame for my chicken not being cooked thouroughly, but it makes me plenty mad.

Widescreen vs Full screen PSA

Sunday, November 14th, 2004 (4 years ago)

I was looking at reviews for the latest Frasier DVD (not that I need to be told that it’s a great show, but I just wanted to see what other people thought about it) and I came across this review:

I know the last season (or two) was filmed in HD. Now I know HD doesn’t necessarily mean widescreen, but I could have sworn Frasier season 11 was in widescreen on the HDTV channels. If that is the case, I will not be buying this. I want the ENTIRE picture.

I’ll refrain from calling this person names and just move on to say that widescreen (or whatever aspect ratio HDTV uses) IS the full picture. And to get the “full screen” (or 4:3 aspect ratio of older televisions), someone has to cut off or zoom in on certains parts of the original video.

I remember a nice little segment in the special features on the Die Hard DVD with director commentary that showed you the original shot (the “widescreen” view), which is what the director wanted the shot to look like and then showed you the altered video (the “full screen” view). Too bad that segment of the DVD isn’t available as a public service announcement of sorts for people who aren’t familiar with the differences of widescreen and full screen.

Don’t be fooled by the words, “full screen”!

(By the way, to the guy who posted that review: Come on! People who watch Frasier should know everything there is about everything. You’re definitely out of the club.)

My name’s Buck…

The second volume of Kill Bill is finally here. I guess a lot of people will be heading to the theatres this weekend. I’ll be watching it in about two weeks when my girlfriend flies in. (Who says romance is dead?)

I wonder how DVD sales of Kill Bill: Volume 1 are doing. It seems like many people (myself included) are saving their money for when Volume 2 is released on DVD and the studios get around to making the Kill Bill: Super Sexy Special Edition Ultra 100% DVD.

I would think that if the movie studios really wanted to profit off these DVD sales, they could have included something useful on the first release of Kill Bill: Volume 1. But there’s close to no extra features on it! People who are expecting another (better) release of the DVDs just can’t justify purchasing the first release. Have a contest, throw in some scandalous pictures, autograph it, or anything!

The thought of buying the DVD entered my mind for about two seconds and then it was gone. And not (just) because I forget about stuff…

Freshs flash

Friday, April 9th, 2004 (4 years, 7 months ago)

I was switching television channels and I came across the WB network. Whenever they run promos for new episodes of shows, they always refer to it as a “fresh” episode instead of a “new” episode (Example: “Four fresh episodes in a row”).

Am I the only one who thinks that sounds just a bit… stupid? And lame?

Maybe FOX will out-do them with, “Coming next week… A sexy, untouched, virgin episode! …Get it? Coming?”

Christmas special

Thursday, December 25th, 2003 (4 years, 10 months ago)

Bah humbug! You’ll get no special Christmas post from me!

I was watching some TV this morning and on one channel, there was just a video feed of a fireplace with Christmas music playing in the background. And this wasn’t just some five minute show— I came back to the channel an hour or two later, to see another angle of the fireplace and a different Christmas song playing in the background.

I think of all the television shows that were cancelled. I liked to watch Newsradio (and still do), Off Centre, John Doe, etc. But they lost out to some mofo video of a fireplace?!

I hate television networks. Bah humbug!
