Male stripper

Thursday, April 7th, 2005 (3 years, 6 months ago)

I don’t know if it’s real common, but I’ve made a habit of pulling off the little strip of plastic below the cap on water bottles before drinking (if you have no idea what strip of plastic I’m talking about, here’s a picture).

By doing this I create a bit more trash, but I feel like I’m going to drink little bits of plastic that break off when I break the seal between the cap and the strip of plastic (sorry, no picture for this– it’s harder than you think to take a decent picture of little, tiny, scraps of plastic).

So if you ever see me blowing on the tip (pause) of my bottled water– or any bottled beverage, I’m not trying to make music. I’m just trying to not drink little pieces of plastic each time I take a sip.

People do weird things and have habits that others think are ridiculous. I might as well share some of mine with you, no matter how trivial they might be.

But for the record, I’m no panty-sniffer.

The best laid plans…

I marinated some chicken drumsticks overnight so that I could have some spicy chicken while watching CSI: Las Vegas tonight (some might consider it odd that I can stomach eating dinner while watching CSI…), but it turns out that there’s a re-run of the show tonight. And the next episode won’t be on for two more weeks. This is the draw-back of being too big a fan of a show like CSI– it’s hard to enjoy re-runs.

I thought I’d try to salvage half of my plans and eat the chicken while watching one of my Frasier DVDs (what a satisfying life I lead). Turns out I took the chicken out of the oven too soon and it’s still pink near the bone.

Damn you CBS, for postponing the new episode of CSI (enough acronyms for you?). I guess I have no one to blame for my chicken not being cooked thouroughly, but it makes me plenty mad.

Poor packaging

It only happens a few times a year, but whenever I get a craving for chilidogs, I’ve always turned to Stagg’s canned chili (normally, I would’ve linked to their website, but after 5 seconds of searching for it, nothing turned up). I guess since the last time I’ve had their chili, they gotten rid of their can packaging and moved towards a box that you can just throw in the microwave or heat in a pot. It looks like those juice boxes kids used to drink in elementary school (I guess it’s possible that kids in elementary school still do drink them, but I don’t have too many friends in elementary school to double-check with).

Not to say that chili in a can is that much better, but something tells me not too many people are going to be crazy about chili in a box. I thought it was pretty weird and so did my girlfriend. It was weird enough for me to switch chili brands for now, anyway.

I should probably just make my own chili, but I have a theory that people who are in the mood for chilidogs are usually in a lazy, I-just-want-to-heat-food-and-eat-it-and-gain-weight mood.

An outrage!

I guess there’s no easy way to break the news, so here goes: Crunch bars no longer come wrapped in aluminum foil! The Crunch bar that I grew up with has changed to regular plastic packaging just like almost every other type of candy bar. Blasphemy.

I don’t know how long it’s been since they made the switch, but be sure to write to your congress men & women (and Nestle) about how the aluminum foil and paper wrapper packaging makes the chocolate taste better.

Speaking of childhood junk food… why is Pepsi Clear still not being re-made? Maybe it’s just my nostalgic memory talking, but that was the best drink, ever.

(Yes, I feel like an old man for posting about how things were “back in the day”.)

Spoiled rotten

I’m in a rush to beat the expiration date on some foods this week. I basically live by myself and every piece of food I buy, I have to eat (by myself).

Because of this, I don’t like to buy things like loaves of bread because I’ll only get to finish half of it before I have to throw it out (if I stay on a strict diet of bread for breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

This also limits my ability to save money by buying food in bulk. I think my record is four trips to the grocery store in one week.

So to all the people out there living on your own: What do you do? The only solution I can think of right now is to buy a huge freezer and deal with eating lots of frozen/thawed food.

Another idea I had was to get some friends (or random people) together and split food like bread, fresh meat, etc. between each other, but it’d be hard to find someone who likes everything that you like (and vise versa).

So help me think of something. Before I eat some sort of contaminated meat.
