I wish cross-over was over
Sunday, December 5th, 2004 (4 years, 1 month ago)I hate to stereotype, but most professional basketball players who try to rap suck massive elephant balls (I use the word “most” because maybe someday I’ll be proven wrong). I refuse to give lame songs any amount of play, so I’m not posting any links to their tracks, but trust me… it’s bad.
There are so many people who try to rap, from athletes to pop singers and they’re just making a joke out of the whole art form.
My views are expressed pretty well in rhyme form in a Tonedeff song called, “TNT”:
Your art is fake, and it’s troubling, yo
There’s kids who think the underground just started with Company Flow
Now we’re stuck with these shows
With 14-year olds and poser herbs
Claiming their emcees,
dropping their fumbled attempts at spoken word
Who don’t deserve the recognition, but they’ll take it
Cause when you had the chance and you didn’t say shit…
You embraced it
Anyway, rather than make a huge post about how much they suck I thought I’d just point people interested in rap in the right direction: Nas - Street’s Disciple.
I’m actually a little surprised to see the high ratings this album is getting on Amazon (average of 4.5 stars out of 5 with 115 reviews at the time I write this post). Not that I don’t think this 2-disc album is great, but I didn’t think so many other buyers would agree. Maybe there’s still hope for mainstream hip hop!
