Grudges don’t budge

Saturday, August 23rd, 2003 (5 years, 2 months ago)

I just got my hair cut a few days ago (don’t worry, it’s not “that” type of post) and I’m still going to the same place I went to for many years— even though it’s at least twenty minutes away.

I’m the type of person who holds grudges for life: My family and I moved about ten years ago, so we were having dinner at this new Chinese food restaurant. It was pretty good, so we came back several times. But the last time we went, they over-cooked something and wouldn’t admit it, telling me that’s how they always make it. So we’ve never been back there since. So now, the only Chinese restaurant I dine at is the same Chinese restaurant in my old neighborhood that I’ve been going to for years.

I might hold grudges, but I show extreme favoritism. I still go to the same place to get my hair cut and the same Chinese food restaurant. I don’t care how far away they are. They’re the ones that deserve my bankroll.

Every nerd detects the worm

Thursday, August 21st, 2003 (5 years, 2 months ago)

I’m glad the type of people that would add me to their email contacts aren’t the type of people who would open up an email virus. I’ve never opened an email that contained a virus or known anyone that has— and I didn’t need any program to tell me what’s safe or not to avoid crashing my computer.

My dad is getting hundreds (literally) of emails due to the latest worm— I barely follow the news on these types of stories because it rarely applies to me.

It’s pretty simple to not get infected, I don’t know what’s so hard about not opening file extensions you’ve never heard of, sent by people you’ve never heard of.

Celebrity empathy

Saturday, August 16th, 2003 (5 years, 3 months ago)

With all the music pirating that’s going on, some celebrities will be recording and releasing commercials that ask fans to not steal their music, but buy it instead. I don’t know how much empathy the public will have towards multi-millionaires asking for money…

It sort of reminds me of this episode of Whose Line Is It Anyway?, where they improvised a donation telethon for professional basketball players: “Come on! Some of these men have three or four wives to support!”

Needs and wants

I’m usually driving myself insane about how I need money, but I really don’t. I just want too many things. I went from making four hundred dollars a week to four hundred dollars a year, but my spending habits haven’t changed enough.

So here’s a mini-goal for myself: to not spend more than 25% of my income. Which means I can forget about a new: watch, hard drive, laptop, internet connection, etc.

Side note: Damn, I just gave that list a second look and I’m really coming off as a geek… SILENCE!

I remember watching this stand up comedian who said her friend got a $10,000 Rolex watch or something. So she asks someone in the audience what the time is and the guy tells her it’s 10:20. “I got the time and it didn’t cost me a damn nickel!”

The line post

Corny pun setup: Windows 2003 STD Edition.
Corny pun punch line: I wonder if it has any viruses.

Deadlines mean nothing to me. No matter what the deadline is, I’m either way ahead or way behind. There’s a website I’ve been meaning to finish for over one and a half years now. But at the same time, I’m almost finished with a design for a client— and I’m a week ahead of schedule.

There’s no real point to this post, so I’m going to end it abruptly and leave you in suspense.
