Noise pollution

Sunday, August 31st, 2003 (5 years, 1 month ago)

I have a feeling I’m just more annoyed by loud animals (young children included), but recently it’s bothering me a whole lot more. I’m constantly being woken up by my neighbor’s dog. And today, I was trying to finish up on some work for a client and ran into a stupid problem. That dog starts barking non-stop while I’m trying to concentrate. It’s beyond just small annoyances: I’m losing time and money because they can’t keep their dog quiet. I’ve never had a dog, but I don’t think a dog that barks for 4 or 5 hours a day is normal (and I can only account for the hours that I spend in my room…)

A week ago, I’m having lunch at the Chinese restaurant I’ve been going to since I was a young’n (learn more about my loyalty to this place) and these little kids come in, making all sorts of noise. I was ready to go say something to their parents when my dad tells me that we should just eat quickly and get out of there. My response: “When ants come and take over your house, you don’t pack up and move…”

Everyone probably thinks I’m heartless now, but think of something that really irritates you. And imagine that happening day after day, causing you to lose sleep, lose time, lose money and it even takes over your meal time. It’s beyond just small annoyances.

Phone lag

Friday, August 29th, 2003 (5 years, 1 month ago)

I’m having to call the DMV offices multiple times a week to schedule a driving test, but everything is booked for 30 days and you can’t make appointments any earlier than 30 days ahead. And you can only make appointments through their awful phone service.

If you ever get past their busy signal, you get greeted with a message in English and then that same message translated in Spanish. It’s quite a long message when what they really should do is get to the stupid menu. The first thing on the menu is a choice for whether you want an English or Spanish menu. Couldn’t this have been first? For someone who’s calling in multiple times, that first message gets pretty damn annoying…

The time it took from me dialing the number to actually speaking to a real person: average of seventeen minutes. And the conversation is one minute long: I ask if they’re available to make an appointment. They say they’re booked for 30 days and we hang up. K thx die.

Useless warning

Thursday, August 28th, 2003 (5 years, 1 month ago)

I’ve been using AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) pretty much ever since it was released and I’ve never come across a case where the warn button was used for some other reason than to annoy someone. It seems like such a useless feature, but it’s in every single version that they release.

Has anyone ever used the button to do anything other than piss someone off? I’ll be emailing AIM, telling them of their useless feature, but I’m sure they’ll just disregard my message. At least I tried. Simplify, man!

Budget crisis

Tuesday, August 26th, 2003 (5 years, 1 month ago)

I’ve been frequenting message boards for website designers and I see a lot of designers asking potential clients, “What’s your budget?”. That’s when people should know these guys are trying to rip them off.

My opinion is this: the potential client either has the money to hire a designer or they don’t. I’ve never been asked what my budget is when I went to go buy a burger or rent a movie: I either had the money or the gun and ski mask or I didn’t get what I wanted.

We on fire

Sunday, August 24th, 2003 (5 years, 1 month ago)

My room is hot. It’s night time and my room is hot. The rest of my house is pretty cold, but mine is hot. “My room is hot” is a complaint that I’ve had for a couple of years with no solution as of yet…

I feel pretty stupid for not thinking about it until now, but I think the reason why my room is so hot is because it’s on the second story of the house, right above our garage.

I don’t know about your houses, but our garage doesn’t have an air conditioning system. So it just traps in heat for hours and hours and then slowly goes away by releasing heat into my room. So as a result, my room is hot until around midnight or later. That doesn’t mean it’s cold around midnight— that’s just when it starts to not get hot.

Someone give me some solutions… This is really killing me. I’m getting head aches and bloody noses and I have to stay in my room because I have to work (on the computer). Our air conditioning is weak by the time it reaches my room and I have a fan: it’s good for circulating all that hot air.

I’m thinking of just asking to switch rooms with my dad since he doesn’t come home until around midnight anyway. Although I think there’s something weird about having the master bedroom for myself when I didn’t even pay for the house.
