About
Some information about me and this website
Chris Rhee?
The name on my birth certificate is “Christopher Rhee”, but I go by, “Chris”. You can call me Christopher if you want, but my way is quicker.
The numbers
I was born on October 17th, 1985. Which makes me 21 years old.
Pictures
You can find pictures of me scattered around the Images section of My Mean Girl.
Korean kid
Which is usually the last nationality that people assume… I often end up telling them because they can’t guess correctly: In the sixth grade, I was new to the school and when I sat down next to my (now) friend, he asked if I was Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Taiwanese, etc. After I said no to almost every race he listed, he says, “Are you sure you’re not Chinese?”
It’s not that big of a deal to me if someone mistakes me for a different asian race.
Currently residing at…
My home address is only for friends and junk mail senders, but it’s located in San Jose, California.
Annie
My girlfriend since January 2003. Annie just happens to be my favorite name. But she’s not just my girlfriend: she’s my best friend. And she’ll avenge my death, so don’t try anything.
You can learn more about her at my other blog, My Mean Girl.
Online Fame?
I’ve been writing on the web since the 90’s. My previous personal site (that was written exclusively by myself) was called Chris-Sucks.
I was sick of the hyphen in my website address, so I decided to change when it came time to renew my dot com address.
So why Online fame? Mainly because many people know me for owning a lot of websites. Also, it’s always about “street fame” with rappers, but it’s all about “online fame” for us online writers.
Oh, you can read!
My favorite book would probably be Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk (who also happens to be my favorite author). And thanks to my girlfriend, I have a personalized and autographed copy of the book! Other Chuck Palahniuk books that I enjoy: Fight Club, Choke, and Lullaby. Also, some favorite non-Chuck Palahniuk books (yes, they exist): The Frog King by Adam Davies and any Imponderables book.
Stand up
I really enjoy stand up comedy. The list of comedians I listen to is huge and always growing, but the ones that I listen to more frequently are Dave Chappelle, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock.
Some new additions to my list: Louis CK, Mitch Hedberg, and Russell Peters (his impressions are dead on, it’s scary).
But really, there’s a whole lot more. I could start a whole different site with the list of comedians I have in my collection.
Movies
I have more respect for movies that struggled to get made (small budget, controversial story that studios didn’t want to back, not well known, etc), but basically any movie with good directing, acting and story will do. Also, having a pistol show up somewhere in the film always helps: The Boondock Saints, Fight Club, Memento, The Usual Suspects, and Nine Queens.
Television
Newsradio is probably the only show I liked that wasn’t a huge success. 24 has had some success, but no where near the chart-toppers like: Frasier, The Simpsons, Seinfeld, CSI (I like the original Las Vegas series much more than Miami), and The Sopranos. And I’ve recently become a fan of a show that should have had success, Futurama.
Several people have said that I watch “old man shows” (as in shows that older men watch).
I hate reality television. I don’t like to be in the same room when it’s on. But I have sat through several episodes from the second season of The Apprentice because my girlfriend watches it.
Music = Life
Hip-hop and rap dominates my music collection, but I really do like many types of music— country and classical music included. I also enjoy listening to scores for movies. I have a huge collection of Barenaked Ladies CDs. The only music genre I don’t listen to is “pop”. Yeah, you know what I’m talking about.
I’m constantly listening to music and I always take my headphones whenever I leave the house.
Actors
My favorite actors are the actors that seem to be able to play any role that’s thrown at them like Edward Norton and Ryan Phillippe. Also, Bruce Willis and Maura Tierney are great. And I can’t forget about my “safety actors“: Denzel Washington and Kevin Spacey.
And just about everyone who plays a major character in The Sopranos.
